January 29th, 2021

Geekorama is Produced by Superhero-Fiction.com

For this week’s episode of Geekorama, Trish and Jeremy are exploring the ongoing impact of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how it’s transformed the world and invited a new generation of geeks to superheroes.

THE PULL LIST

Jeremy - Venom (2018) Writer Donny Cates, Pencils Ryan Stegman, Inker JP Mayer. With this run of Venom coming to a close, there is good reason to see what all the fuss is about. The characterization of the Venom symbiote is done incredibly well and the emotional range on page is outstanding. What makes it even more interesting, in a few short pages it goes from being a side character in Spider-Man to having a mythos deeply rooted in the Marvel Universe. Well worth reading and the artwork puts this up there in the pantheon of comics. 4.5/5 Capes

Trish - Haunted Heroine by Sarah Kuhn. This series is one of my all time favorites. It has kick ass asian american female heroes, steamy romance and a really fun world. This book also has some thrills and chills since it takes place at a seemingly haunted college campus during Halloween. Highly recommend whether or not it’s Halloween, 5/5 Capes

GEEK OUTS

Trish - The History of Swear Words.  Wanna see Nic Cage chew scenery and swear up a blue streak? You could que up any of his movies OR you could have a good laugh and learn something by watching this limited Netflix series. It’s funny, informative, fascinating and so much more!

Jeremy - Teddy Bomb. When the description includes a beer delivery guy, a plot to destroy the word and a teddy bear with laser eyes and chainsaw fur, how can you not watch it? It could either be the worst movie of all time, or comedy genius. This one might require cocktails with friends to work, but in the end, it had enough, “WTF” moments to make it entertaining.

Deep Dive -  Impact Crater: How the MCU Changed Fandom

We are more than a decade into the major cross-over-event created by the MCU. Now with comics in the mainstream, there are a whole new wave of fans coming to comic book properties. With this new surge, there is always the fear of gatekeeping as new fans and old fans clash. However, we’re hopeful that this is going to create a new blend of fans who love these heroes from any era!

S2E1 - Wonder Woman: A War for 84

January 15th, 2021

THE PULL LIST

Jeremy - Wolverine #5 (Written by Benjamin Percy) has our favorite tortured mutant confronting his past, as he always does, and realizing he’s not quite a good person. But when the plot involves Vampires and Omega Red, we don’t need a good person, we need a mutant willing to slice and dice. 3.5/5 Capes

Trish - Unravel the Dusk by Elizabeth Lim The sequel to Spin the Dawn and the conclusion to the Blood of the Stars Duology. This book is beautifully written, Asian inspired high fantasy. The world building is incredible and the heroine is now one of my favorite characters 5/5 Capes.

GEEK OUTS

Trish - COBRA KAI Season 3!!! Everything I wanted and then some. Available on Netflix, this season brings back all our favorite characters we love and love to hate. We get the ship we wanted and get to see two cast members from Karate Kid Two and one from the original (who could it be?) The violence was darker this season as was Cresse, so be prepared for that. Slower start to the season, but the character development made it worth it.

Jeremy - Need a superhero movie with a lot of heart? Then Superbob (available on Amazon Prime) is here for all your heart’s pitter pattering needs. Set in the United Kingdom, the world’s only superhero hasn’t had a date in over six years. The story is about doing what’s right, finding love, and savoring the little moments in life. It’s an absolute yes from me. For those suffering from action adventure fatigue, this is a movie that oozes heart.

Deep Dive -  WW 84: Sequels vs. the Original

For this week's deep dive Trish and Jeremy sit on opposite sides of the discussion. They go into detail about the flaws and successes of Wonder Woman 84. With an outstanding original, they pick apart the highs and lows of WW84 and ask the question, "Can a sequel ever be as good as the original?"
